Rosh HaShannah 2

Daf yomi :

The tractate opens with the question of when we start mentioning the glory of rains. The gemarrah immediately looks at the question of why we mention rain in particular. The gemarrah then associates the power of rain with the power of birth and resurrection.

these three items: rain, birth, resurrection are unified. Only two are familiar: rain and birth. The nature of resurrection is not clear, we have no experience with it (yet). In the myth sense, the earth is resurrected annually.

I think that an important thread among these three ( or four [the gemarrah adds the possibility of livelihood being a member of the group]) gifts of G d is their intermittency and unpredictability. Only G d knows where the cloud will appear and where it will release its rain.
